Bonitron Braking Transistors are used with AC drives to allow full power braking and eliminate overvoltage faults. This permits controlled braking and dramatically shortens motor stopping time. Bonitron transistors monitor the DC bus, and if overvoltage occurs, the transistor shunts the excess energy through a resistor to prevent overvoltage faults.
The M3675T shown below is rated for lower-current applications in 110–480VAC configurations. For the full range of sizes, see our complete line of Braking Transistors, or use our How to Size a Braking Transistor guide to find the right rating for your application.
The Bonitron M3452-U1600CT10-R7 is a 1600 A heavy-duty braking transistor for high-power 575–600 VAC variable frequency drive systems. During deceleration or regenerative operation, the unit monitors the VFD DC bus and switches excess energy into an external braking resistor, helping control bus voltage and prevent overvoltage faults. This T10 configuration uses a 940 VDC braking setpoint and is designed for demanding applications where large motors or high-inertia loads require reliable dynamic braking. The R7 control board provides hardwired enable, master/slave selection, fault reset, and module status functions for straightforward system integration. With high-current braking capability and industrial-duty construction, this model is suited for large VFD applications requiring controlled stopping and dependable regenerative energy management.
